Book Trailers and Mini Films

Hello hello!

Tabitha here.

Because I've been struggling to articulate via the gift of words recently, I thought I'd share some of the videos and book trailers I've made. Sometimes a gal's gotta do what a gal's gotta do to keep the creativity releasing :D

I've been lucky enough to be part of some wonderful anthologies which have inspired me to make these trailers for them.

First up - but of course, it has to be a Brit Babes book! Here's my trailer for our most recent release, Sexy just Got Rich...

Some hot stuff going on in there I tell ya!

What do you love most about your job at Totally Bound?
I love being able to work with a fabulous stable of authors and help them to build and promote their author brand. Working at Totally Bound for nearly five years means I have developed a love of erotic romance and enjoy creating a buzz around each book release. I also enjoy attending reader events on behalf of the company. Creating new imprints provides me with avenues to explore exciting PR opportunities including launch parties, book tours and national press campaigns.

What do you think makes Totally Bound special?
The personal touch and dedication to everything we do. Each member of staff strives to provide the best service in their area of expertise with a personal approach. I genuinely believe that we provide quality erotic romance fiction for that special bit of ‘me’ time which is so important to readers’ lives. At Totally Bound we appreciate that we have two sets of customers – authors and readers – and without one of those we wouldn’t have a business.

What advice would you give to aspiring Erotic Romance authors?
Become familiar with the genre and look at what is popular in the industry. Look around and research publishers before you submit to them. Also, work on building a backlist – this is essential. Once a reader is hooked into one of your books they become voracious and will want more from you. Another idea would be to work on self-promotion — setting up your own website or blog and being active on social media. It is important to work on building your author brand and putting yourself out there, letting readers get to know you.

What kind of books do you like to read?
If I’m looking to relax I love to read chick-lit books, something easy to pick up and enjoy, a happy ever after with some comedy thrown in always helps. I also enjoy erotic romance, especially Totally Bound authors! Studying English Literature at university means I have read a cross section of novels and enjoy picking up classics like The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. I also like a gothic novel — Dracula or Northanger Abbey — or more recently Twilight. Basically, it depends on my mood at the time!

If you could hop in a time-travel machine, where would you go and why?
I think I’d need to explore a few places, is that allowed? I’d like to travel back and meet the Bronte sisters, find out from them why they wrote what they did and see what their lives were really like. I think I’d also like to travel forward to a time I won’t get to see, find out how we are living, what technology is like in hundreds of years and what we have done to the planet.

If you were stuck in a film, which one would you choose and why?
These final questions are so hard! I can’t choose – maybe I can put that down to being a Gemini! I would love to be stuck in Mary Poppins or Mrs Doubtfire. Both were favourites of mine and to be part of them would be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! As an adult I’d like to be stuck in the Twilight films – the fantasy, romance, action, danger and of course the vampire vs werewolf conflict is exciting!

What do you love most about your job at Totally Bound?
One of my favourite things about my role is that I’m constantly learning more and more about the digital world. Social media is proving increasingly beneficial to book publishers and I’m really enjoying tapping into its advantages to help promote our authors. Email newsletters are also a really important way of keeping our readers up to date and its nice being the one to inform fans that the book they’re desperate to read is now available!

What do you think makes Totally Bound special?
I think Totally Bound has that personal touch that some larger publishers perhaps lack - become a Totally Bound author and you’ll get to know the team behind you. We’re always on hand to help, whether it’s with the editing process, promotional opportunities, marketing advice and more.

What advice would you give to aspiring Erotic Romance authors?
Be brave! The Erotic Romance industry is booming, now is the time to join the fun! There’s a welcoming community of authors out there to offer help and advice. It’s also important to remember that promotion is key. Be sure to get your name ‘out there’ as much as possible by utilising promotional opportunities like blog tours, social media, review sites and building your own website. We’ve got a great Marketing and PR team who can help with these things and we know what a difference they can make to sales.

What kind of books do you like to read?
A bit of everything, I guess! Some of my favourites are crime thrillers but I also love reading anything that can teach me about another culture or country. That’s why I’m a big fan of Khaled Hosseini’s books. I also enjoy wartime fiction novels, particularly those set in the 20th Century.

If you could hop in a time-travel machine, where would you go and why?
I’m a bit of a history fanatic, so I’d definitely go back in time rather than forward. I’d go to Berlin on 9th November 1989 to join the Mauerfall (fall of the wall) celebrations. Crowds of people took to the streets in jubilation, many of whom could now reunite with family and friends after 28 years of separation and oppression. After much turmoil in the 20th Century, the Mauerfall symbolised hope for a peaceful world in the future. What a happy day!

If you were stuck in a book, which one would you choose and why?
I’m a big fan of Agatha Christie, especially her books about Poirot, the little Belgian detective. I’d love to help him solve a mystery. There’s little science involved, it’s all about Poirot’s clever mind! I also love the era the books are set in. The fashion of 1920s and 1930s Britain was so glamorous, all those flapper dresses and floppy hats. It would be so much fun to dress up, attend dinner parties in beautiful manor houses and catch a bad guy in the process!

Name: Jack Davis

Age: 25

Position: Marketing & Development Manager

What do you love most about your job at Totally Bound?
Most of all, I would say working in Publishing. It can be very challenging but, ultimately, hugely rewarding. Each book we release gets its own Marketing strategy, objectives and targets which need to fit together for the company-wide campaigns. When it all comes together, it’s a great feeling to know that we made a book a big success!

What do you think makes Totally Bound special?
I think we all work really well together, we have a lot of similar interests and with the genre of books we all tend to be a little more relaxed and easy-going than any other office job I’ve had. We have a lot of creative freedom and we get on really well with the authors so every day is different.

What advice would you give aspiring Erotic Romance authors?
I would say that the first stage would be to think about your readers, and this can start before you’ve even written anything!
Don’t make the mistake of putting your book out there and hoping people will actively seek it out to buy it. Get yourself plenty of relevant followers and subscribers before you actually release your first book! If you can sell 50 copies on release date from leads you yourself have generated beforehand, then your book could potentially be featuring on bestseller lists, new release charts and feature spots on retail websites. This means more visibility and more people potentially converting into a reader!
Get involved in your genre and industry. Join book groups, participate in discussions, review books, offer opinions, comment on news in your circles. Drive traffic to your website and social media, become a figure who is recognised in the field. Readers buy into authors more than anything else. Be positive, be engaging and encourage discussions and feedback.
Plus: reader’s talk! For every reader you have, there could be five friends who would read your book. A readership can grow exponentially with a little nurturing.

What kind of books do you like to read?
Generally speaking, I like anything which has some unique viewpoint or offers something different. I love dipping into the Classics every now and then (Dickens, Fitzgerald and Melville in particular); I enjoy supernatural/psychological horrors as well (King and Malerman among others); and who can resist a well-written dystopia?
Some of my all-time favourite books include Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell, the 1Q84 trilogy by Haruki Murakami and Dark Matter by Michelle Paver.

If you could hop into a time-travel machine, where would you go and why?
I would definitely have to go forwards. Technology has changed so much just in the past ten years so I want to see how different life and culture is in two hundred years! I’d bring back a Sports Almanac and get mega rich, if you don’t know what I mean, you need to watch Back to the Future!

If you were stuck in a book, which one would you choose and why?

Well, since I’m a big fan of horror and dystopia stories I probably can’t choose any of my favourite books. I wouldn’t last ten minutes in the Hunger Games… I loved the His Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman when I was younger so I should be safe in there?

Name:  Holly Gunner

Age:  23

Position:  PR & Communications Assistant

What do you love most about your job at Totally Bound?
My favourite part about my job is getting to work so closely with so many authors. I love being able to help them promote themselves, and it is wonderful when there is a good reaction to an author feature or interview which I helped create. It’s also a great feeling when I get to send an author a five-star review, whether it’s a bestselling author or a never-before-been published author, I love letting them know that someone loved their book!

What do you think makes Totally Bound special?
We are a close-knit company and we all are passionate about getting the best for each and every one of our authors. I think it is that passion which sets us apart, and that makes me proud to be part of the TB team!

What advice would you give to aspiring Erotic Romance authors?
My advice would be to set yourself up across social media. Get a blog. Get a Facebook and get on goodreads. If you don’t want to have your photo out there, and want to rely on a pseudonym then that’s great – if you want to be yourself, that’s great too; just make sure you start building your brand from the word go. There is so much you can do, and you need to start early to make the biggest impact you can! Basically the aim of the game is that when people google you, there are lots of results, you can make that happen and my job here at TB is to help you J

What kind of books do you like to read?
I am a big lover of Scandinavian crime fiction. If not that, then pass me a dystopian classic like 1984 or Brave New World.

If you could hop in a time-travel machine, where would you go and why?
I think I would go back to Celtic times like those of Boudica. I read an amazing series called Dreaming The.. by Manda Scott when I was younger and it has really stuck in my mind. The Celtic people’s belief and loyalty to their traditions, dreams and warrior strength is really inspiring. I want to be a part of that!

If you were stuck in a film, which one would you choose and why?
If I had to be in any film, I would love for it to be a Disney film. If I’m going to be stuck somewhere, I’d like it to be as full of sunshine, rainbows and talking animals as possible! If pushed, I’d go for Sleeping Beauty somewhere in a cottage in the forest.
